Intelligent
Transportation Society of America (ITS
America)
The mission of ITS America is to foster public/private
partnerships to increase the safety and efficiency of surface
transportation through the application of advanced technologies.
The U.S. Congress mandated the creation of ITS America in 1991
to coordinate the development and deployment of intelligent
transportation systems in the United States.
ITS America
members participate in ongoing research, planning, standards
development, deployment and marketing of ITS programs, products
and services. Membership is approximately 50% private-sector
companies and 50% academia, government and associations. These
organizations represent more than 60,000 individuals involved
in ITS programs.
California
Alliance for Advanced Transportation Systems (CAATS)
CAATS
is a partnership of California-based transportation and technology
executives, from government, industry and academia, with the
shared goal of accelerating the deployment of technology in
the California transportation network to the benefit of travelers.
CAATS mission is to:
- Sponsor
educational, outreach and informational plans and programs
on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and other multimodal
ATS technologies.
- Encourage
cooperation on planning, development, commercialization
and deployment of ATS.
- Facilitate
partnerships between and among public and private participants.
- Provide
leadership in the development of statewide consensus in
the establishment of plans, programs, standards, specifications
and protocols as they relate to ATS.
Los
Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA)
The LACMTA is unique among the nations transportation
agencies. It serves as transportation planner and coordinator,
designer, builder and operator for one of the countrys
largest, most populous counties. More than 9 million people
one-third of Californias residents live,
work and play within its 1,433-square-mile service area. Besides
operating over 1,900 coaches in the Metro Bus fleet, the MTA
also designed, built and now operates almost 60 miles of Metro
Rail service. The Metro Rail system currently consists of
50 stations, and several more are in the planning and/or design
stage.
In addition to operating its own services, the MTA funds 16
municipal bus operators and funds a wide array of transportation
projects including bikeways and pedestrian facilities, local
road and highway improvements, goods movement, and the popular
Freeway Patrol and Call Boxes.
Recognizing that no one form of transit can solve urban congestion
problems, the MTAs multimodal approach uses a variety
of transportation alternatives to meet the needs of the highly
diverse population in the region. The "M" logo of
MTA's Metro System is the public symbol of this fully-coordinated
network.
Orange Country Transportation Authority (OCTA)

TravelTIP is one of the first systems of its kind in the nation.
It is part of a larger effort that uses advanced technologies
to improve the transportation system. TravelTIP is sponsored
by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), and
federal, state and local agencies in Orange County. The California
Highway Patrol, Caltrans District 12, the County of Orange
