Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America)
The mission of ITS America is to foster public/private partnerships to increase the safety and efficiency of surface transportation through the application of advanced technologies. The U.S. Congress mandated the creation of ITS America in 1991 to coordinate the development and deployment of intelligent transportation systems in the United States.

ITS America members participate in ongoing research, planning, standards development, deployment and marketing of ITS programs, products and services. Membership is approximately 50% private-sector companies and 50% academia, government and associations. These organizations represent more than 60,000 individuals involved in ITS programs.

California Alliance for Advanced Transportation Systems (CAATS)
CAATS is a partnership of California-based transportation and technology executives, from government, industry and academia, with the shared goal of accelerating the deployment of technology in the California transportation network to the benefit of travelers. CAATS’ mission is to:

  • Sponsor educational, outreach and informational plans and programs on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and other multimodal ATS technologies.
  • Encourage cooperation on planning, development, commercialization and deployment of ATS.
  • Facilitate partnerships between and among public and private participants.
  • Provide leadership in the development of statewide consensus in the establishment of plans, programs, standards, specifications and protocols as they relate to ATS.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA)
The LACMTA is unique among the nation’s transportation agencies. It serves as transportation planner and coordinator, designer, builder and operator for one of the country’s largest, most populous counties. More than 9 million people – one-third of California’s residents – live, work and play within its 1,433-square-mile service area. Besides operating over 1,900 coaches in the Metro Bus fleet, the MTA also designed, built and now operates almost 60 miles of Metro Rail service. The Metro Rail system currently consists of 50 stations, and several more are in the planning and/or design stage.

In addition to operating its own services, the MTA funds 16 municipal bus operators and funds a wide array of transportation projects including bikeways and pedestrian facilities, local road and highway improvements, goods movement, and the popular Freeway Patrol and Call Boxes.

Recognizing that no one form of transit can solve urban congestion problems, the MTA’s multimodal approach uses a variety of transportation alternatives to meet the needs of the highly diverse population in the region. The "M" logo of MTA's Metro System is the public symbol of this fully-coordinated network.

Orange Country Transportation Authority (OCTA) - TravelTIP
TravelTIP is a traveler information system that provides up-to-the-minute traffic conditions on freeways and streets, as well as transit information in Orange County, California. This information is provided to the public through this web site, a telephone advisory system (949/451-1TIP), and interactive touch-screen kiosks.

TravelTIP is one of the first systems of its kind in the nation. It is part of a larger effort that uses advanced technologies to improve the transportation system. TravelTIP is sponsored by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), and federal, state and local agencies in Orange County. The California Highway Patrol, Caltrans District 12, the County of Orange and 15 cities are among the partners. The TravelTIP system is still under development at this time. OCTA and its partners will be enhancing TravelTIP over the next several months. The current beta version includes some of the information and features that will be provided in the final system including:

  • The Traffic Information page showing real-time congestion, incidents and advisories (such as road closures, detours, special events, etc.) for the Orange County area. Clickable icons provide more information about advisories, and clickable segments of freeways and streets show speeds and estimated travel times.
  • The Transit Information page displays current transit schedules and provides links to route and fare information.
  • The Other Traveler Information page provides links to other general traveler information sites throughout California. The TravelTIP Information page provides more information on the TravelTIP system and other systems under development that use advanced technologies to help travelers in Southern California.

Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC)

San Bernardino Association of Governments (SANBAG)

Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC)

The VCTC is a governing board of seven members responsible for keeping Ventura County moving. The Commission develops and implements transportation policies, projects, funding and priorities for projects that involve highways, bus services, bicycling and bike paths, aviation, commuter and freight railroads, and other transportation issues.

The Commission controls and reviews the use of federal, state and local funds for transportation and related projects, and also serves as the Airport Land Use Commission Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies Congestion Management Agency. Created by state legislation in 1988, the Commission began operations in 1989, at which time it assumed the transportation responsibilities and resources of the Ventura County Association of Governments.
